our customer has a 6500 ( non E ) core switch with the following configuration:

11 16 CEF720 16 port 10GE WS-X6716-10GE SAL14491XRW
12 8 CEF720 8 port 10GE with DFC WS-X6708-10GE SAL1430NVNL
13 8 CEF720 8 port 10GE with DFC WS-X6708-10GE SAL1430NXA5
the customer wants to use will purchase a second Core switch-to use the two switches as a VSS pair-with the follwing config:
VS-S2T-10G (Q2)
WS-X6748-GE-TX (Q2)
WS-X6816-10G-2T (Q2)
We need to know what is the exact upgrade that is required on the first ( old ) core switch ? appreciating your fast support.

You need to upgrade fan try and power supply
Q. Will the Supervisor 720 be supported in all Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series chassis?
A. Yes. In the case of E-series chassis no fan upgrade is required. E-Chassis Fan tray is sufficient. In the case of non E-series chassis please follow the Table 2 for fan upgrade.

the customer wats to upgrade the SUP on the old switch ( from VS-S720-10G to VS-S2T-10G ) shall we upgrade the line cards to suppor the new SUP and to run the VSS between the two swiches ?

Hi,
Yes, you would need to have the same type of line cards in both chassis if you want to do VSS. If the old switch has a VS-S720-10G installed and it is working then that chassis is already an E chasse. There is no need to upgrade the chassis. For VSS, make sure the line card models and the Sups are the same.
