Hi,

I have added few more modules to C6509-E and when I did 'show module' one of the WS-SUP720-3BXL come up as "Unknown (Other)". Any idea on the possible cause of this?

Hi,

So, the card is not recognized by the switch.  Make sure it has the correct image as the sup in slot 5 and it is booting correctly.  Also try reseating the card in slot 6 and test again. If none of these work, you may upgrade the IOS if not you may have a faulty card.

Hi Reza,

I move card 6 into card 5 slot (now the system only has 1 SUP) and power up the unit.  What I run into next is I received "device does not contain a valid magic number".  According to another post, the filesystem maybe corrupted so I did a boot bootflash: and now I am able to get into the system and the card it showing up in slot 5.  What I am not sure is, slot 6 is empty, why is it showing "Redundant Sup"?

5    WS-SUP720-3BXL      328.44  7.82   328.44  7.82  on    on
6    (Redundant Sup)       -     -      328.44  7.82  -     -

Hi David,

That is fine. Slot 6 is reserved for redundant sup.  So, now put the old (good) sup that was originally in slot 5 in slot 6 and boot up the system.  Hopefully you get to have both sups working in SSO mode.  If not, I would upgrade to a newer version of IOS and try again.

Looks like I have a faulty card-
