6509 GigE blade, can't set trunk encapsulation

I have two 6509 switches and I am trying to create a trunk port on the 48 port gigabit blades.

I do not have the option to set the trunk encapsulation.

Am I locked into isl for these blades?

6509(config)#int g9/1

6509(config-if)#switchport trunk ?

allowed Set allowed VLAN characteristics when interface is in trunking mode

encapsulation Set trunking encapsulation when interface is in trunking mode

native Set trunking native characteristics when interface is in trunking mode

pruning Set pruning VLAN characteristics when interface is in trunking mode

6509(config)#int g8/47

6509(config-if)#switchport trunk ?

allowed Set allowed VLAN characteristics when interface is in trunking mode

native Set trunking native characteristics when interface is in trunking mode

pruning Set pruning VLAN characteristics when interface is in trunking mode

No problem. You are right that module does not support ISL either. See attached link for more details:

Re: 6509 GigE blade, can't set trunk encapsulation

this specifies the Trunking Mode Characteristics.

It means that trunking is on.

Go to the interface and type the command.

#switchport trunk encapsulation dot1Q

this would be it.If possible later try the command.

#switchport trunk

Let us know if this helps.

That does not help.

As you can see, I do not have the option to set the encapsulation on the blade, as I do on the other one.

What module are you referring to. For example the WS-6148-GE-TX and WS-6548-GE-TX only support 802.1Q trunking and not ISL so there is not option given to choose the encapsulation method.

So once you enter the command

switch(config-if)# switch mode trunk

this will automatically become an 802.1Q trunk.

Re: 6509 GigE blade, can't set trunk encapsulation

Thanks jon.

That is it.

I am assuming that the ws-x6548-GE-45AF is the same, because I am unable to set it one that on either.

Thanks again.
