Re: 802.1q trunking on ethernet

Hi

Can someone please confirm that it is not possible to configure 802.1q trunking on an ethernet interface. I'm busy with a lab setup and the router (a 3620) will not accept the encapsulation dot1q x (where x is the vlan number). I'm running IOS12.3 IP plus.

Hi EP

The code you currently have in your box belongs to 12.2 Release and of IP Feature set.

You need to have IP PLUS feature set to have the required config in place.

you can make use of the below mentioned tool to find out the ip plus image which can fit into your current flash/dram available in place..

Could you just confirm something for me please? Do you know if this command is supported on a normal ethernet interface as apposed to a fastethernet interface. Meanwhile I'll check the memory req.

Another thing is.. I thought the MZ in the following image name indicates that this is a IP Plus image. I'm getting a bit rusty on the versions.

Though i haven't tried configuring IEEE 802.1q trunking on an Normal Ethernet interface i doubt on the support of the same with ethernet interfaces.

The config samples too are pointing me towards fast ethernet interfaces..

Hi

I've just upgraded to IP Plus version. The answer is yes, you can configure Dot1q using the encapsulation command under the subinterface using a normal ethernet interface as apposed to a fastethernet interface.

Hi,

You should be able to do 802.1q tagging over the ethernet interface.

What is the error message that you are getting while doing so.?

Before creating the sub-interfaces, you should remove any ip address configuration done on the physical interface.

Can you post your config ?
