Adjust spanning tree time

Hi all,

If resilient network is changes, I have counted that STP need about 45 sec for network resume.

what is the machanism for this 45 sec ?

Can I adjust STP so that network can be recovery as soon as possible ?

Re: Adjust spanning tree time

Instead of changing "standard" STP timers, you might see if your equipment supports one of the new spanning tree protocol, such as RSTP. See http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk389/tk621/tk845/tsd_technology_support_sub-protocol_home.html

Re: Adjust spanning tree time

The time it takes for a port to transition from blocking to the forwarding state is 30 to 50 seconds (20 sec max age, 15 sec listening, 15 sec learning). Although it is possible to tune these timers, the recommendation is to leave those timers at their default value.

As Joseph said, used RSTP instead; or consider using Uplink Fast, and Backbonefast.

Best Regards

Re: Adjust spanning tree time

Use rapid spanning tree , I would not mess around with normal spanning tree timers . You will have to implement this across all your switches .
