Any way to recover / reset VTP password

Hi Guys,

I was just wondering that is there any way to recover / reset forgotten VTP password (other than reseting the box itself) like what we do to reset password on router (CRTL+BREAL sequence and then changing config register).

I tried googling around, but didn't find any useful info though.

Maybe, CSC experts can help :-)

Re: Any way to recover / reset VTP password

Hi,

Did u try show vtp password..?

if not then u can see the vtp password in the vlan.dat file.

u can use the command from enable mode.

switch#more vlan.dat

the first line will show u the password.

Thanks

Re: Any way to recover / reset VTP password

Hello,

As other friends here have already indicated, you can try to use the show vtp password command in the privileged mode. If you are running the VTPv1 or VTPv2, this command will show you the password in cleartext form. With VTPv3, the password may be stored in an encrypted form and you will not be able to find out its original cleartext form.

In any case, you can always change the VTP password using the global configuration commands

no vtp password ! Removes the VTP password

vtp password NewS3cretP4s5w0rd ! Configures a new password

Best regards,

Peter

Re: Any way to recover / reset VTP password

Hi Mahmood,

As of now i don't have access to switch.

Also, it is not an problem which i'm facing, but a general query; which just popped of from somewhere.

So, i was just trying to find the way.
