Backbone Switch H/W Specifications

Hello,

Is there a backbone switch/router that supports at least 48-port 10/100/1000 ethernet, 8-port 100base-X SFP

,800 Gbps switching fabric performance, and provide at least 10 slots?

6513-E's switching fabric performance does not meet the above requirement since its maximum backplane BW is only 720 Gbps.

In regards to Nexus 7000 Series, it states that it delivers up to 480 Gbps of data throughput but offers

1.1 Tbps Full duplex (550 Gbps in each direction) Switch Fabric Interface as per Cisco's Data Sheet.

I am confused if this means Nexus 7000 Series does suffice the above requirements or not.

Thank you in advance

This value is PER CHASSIS and not per slot.  Sup720 can support 40 Gbps per slot.

If you want higher per slot backplane then the next one in line would be the 4500R+E with Sup7E.

You want to go higher per slot backplane speed?  6500 with Sup2T.

The 6513, using a sup2t, has 80 Gbps to all slots; 2TB per chassis.

The nexus 7000 series supports up to 550 Gbps per SLOT, with total switching fabric capacity between 7.7 and 17.6 Tbps per CHASSIS.

The trouble is, like msot Cisco card-based models, almost all of the M series cards (layer 3 capable cards) are over subscribed to the backbone.

You could put the following into a Nexus &k and get close to what you want

1 x N7K-M148GS-11L - 48 x 1 GE SFP based ports

1 x N7K-M148GT-11L - 48 x 10/100/1000 copper ports

Put them in with a SUP2 or SUP2E and 5 x FAB2 switching modules, and you'll get the throughput stated - 550 Gbps per card slot.

Cheers
