hi,
i trie to put in a banner on a catalyst 6509e. there is no error message at all. the banner i trie to put in works on other switches without problems.
but when i look at the config the banner entry is empty:
!
banner exec ^C
^C
banner login ^C
^C
!
the only that is different to all other switches is that this switch is in a VSS bundle.
(s72033_rp-IPSERVICESK9_WAN-VM), Version 12.2(33)SXI, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2)
any ideas, bug or ???, regards Reinhold.

Hello Reinhold,
there are bugs like
Banner command sync is broken by CSCin86483
Symptoms: The banner motd command may not properly function when you enter a message-of-the-day (MOTD) through the banner motd d message d command because the d message d argument of the command may not be synchronized to the standby RP. Conditions: This symptom is observed on Cisco router or switch that is configured for SSO. |
Cannot save banner bigger than 2048 characters
Symptom: Banner bigger than 2048 chracters does not show up in show run after a reload. "sh run" or "wr mem" reports traceback error. |
or the following one:
banner exec CLI ignoring lines starting with #, !, and ;
Symptoms: Banner lines starting with "#", "!", or ";" characters are not stored in the running configuration. Conditions: No specific conditions. |
Hope to help
Giuseppe
