Which specific problem to troubleshoot?

My favorite and always use for many years in order.

1. Traceroute and packet drops

2. Reverse traceroute, BGP looking glass, etc..

http://www.traceroute.org

3. DNS

4. WHOIS

5. Subnetting, password cracking,

6. Hexadecimal calculator

7. Sniffing

Most user think that if they cannot access a remote host, the problem is network. Majority of this perception is wrong. In most cases, the cause is trojan or virus. The following will help you probe if its a network problem or the user PC is infected with trojan or virus before rebooting your core switch.

1. Online AntiVirus scanner

2. Spybot Search&Destroy
