config-register is executed before boot system command.

Re: boot system and config register commands

Hello,

Boot system tells the router which IOS image to load.

config-register tells the router how to boot. ie you can set the router to go straight to eprom, boot using the startup-config or boot ignoring the startup-config etc etc.

Try reading these links

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps133/products_tech_note09186a008022493f.shtml

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/12_2/configfun/command/reference/frf010.html

or you can find out about any cisco commands by googling someting like

"config-register command reference site:cisco.com"

Thanks

Re: boot system and config register commands

Thanks a lot James!

By specifying the location, type of ios is also specified automatically. How?

ROM has limited function of ios type

flash has fully functional ios

So when i use the command" boot system rom"

it will tell router the location for ios. Since ROM holds only limited functional ios, therefore type of ios is also specified implicitly .

Thanks a lot!
