Hi all, is it only the root switch that sends the bpdu's in a switched network, or do all switches send them every 2 seconds ?

Hi Carl,

Only root switch send the configuration BPDU every 2 seconds and all the other switches receives it and relays to the downstream switches.

However there is another type of BPDU known as TCN BPDUs which are generated by any switch if there is any topology change and that BPDU is fwded towards the root switch.

Also, with RSTP and MST, every switch sends bpdus every two seconds (and the particular TCN bpdu has disappeared).
