I have never heard of this before.  And it wouldn't make any sense either.

It wont cause a hardware faillure but it could bring your network to it's knees if it happens.

i am not sure on broadcast but a spanning tree loop can burn the switch.

Hi,

A traffic storm occurs when packets flood the LAN, creating excessive traffic and degrading network performance only.

But if you identify the interface on which it is happening then you will also have the option to control it.

storm-control broadcast level level

Let me rephrase my first post.

A broadcast storm won't, in my opinion, fry components of a switch.

However, a faulty component COULD potentially cause issues and one could be a broadcast storm.

Either cases, I have never seen one before.
