Bus Asic #0 transient Pb error

Dear Sir,

We insert a line card of 24-port SFP into 6509E switch. It came up with the following error:

PM_SCP-SP-2-LCP_FW_ERR_INFORM: Module 7 is experiencing the following error: Bus Asic #0 transient Pb error. Recovered. (0x0020, 0x0000)

All VLANs and OSPFs are restarted. Now it is running without problem.

Do you know what does the error mean?

Thanks

Hello Joseph,

System messages begin with a percent sign (%) and are structured as follows. The text in bold are required elements of the System Message, the text in italics are optional elements of the System Message.

%FACILITY-SUBFACILITY-SEVERITY-MNEMONIC: Message-text

SUBFACILITY is used only for Cisco Catalyst 6500 series switches that are operating in a distributed system. The subfacility can consist of one code, or two codes that are divided by a hyphen, and describes the part of the distributed system from where the message is coming. For example, the%DIAG-SP-STDBY-6-RUN_MINIMUM system message is the %DIAG-6-RUN_MINIMUM message coming from the switch processor (SP) that is in redundant or standby (STDBY) mode.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/12_2sx/system/messages/sm2sxovr.html

So the SP is the standby processor, if you have two processors, the message is the same but it has been reported by the standby processor.

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Hello Joseph,

it has been a problem during linecard insertion.

Monitor the device to see if the message appears again.

from error message guide

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/12_2sx/system/messages/sm2sx06.html#wp1032016

PM_SCP-2

Error Message %PM_SCP-2-LCP_FW_ERR_INFORM: Module [dec] is experiencing the

following error: [chars]

Explanation The module is reporting an error condition, where [dec] is the module number, and [chars] is the error. This condition is usually caused by an improperly seated linecard or a hardware failure. If the error message is seen on all of the linecards, the cause is an improperly seated module.

Recommended Action Reseat and reset the linecard or the module. If the error message persists after the module is reset, copy the message exactly as it appears on the console or in the system log. Research and attempt to resolve the issue using the tools and utilities provided at http://www.cisco.com/tac. With some messages, these tools and utilities will supply clarifying information. Search for resolved software issues using the Bug Toolkit at http://www.cisco.com/pcgi-bin/Support/Bugtool/launch_bugtool.pl. If you still require assistance, open a case with the Technical Assistance Center via the Internet at http://tools.cisco.com/ServiceRequestTool/create, or contact your Cisco technical support representative and provide the representative with the information you have gathered. Attach the following information to your case in nonzipped, plain-text (.txt) format: the output of the show logging and show tech-support commands and your pertinent troubleshooting logs.

My error code is ...

PM_SCP-SP-2-LCP_FW_ERR_INFORM

Is it the same as yours?

PM_SCP-2-LCP_FW_ERR_INFORM

Thanks

Hello Joseph,

they are actually similar but not the same.

What IOS release are you using on your C6509E ?

It can be a question of IOS release.

However, despite my error I think they are almost the same SP could stand for supervisor I guess.

Hope to help

Giuseppe
