C4506 doesn't boot the correct IOS from flash

I have loaded a newer IOS to bootflash of a C4506, configured the boot system command (and saved it), but the C4506 doesn't load it.

What's your config register set to? It's quite possible your config register setting may be causing the switch to ignore the configured boot system commands. It should be set to 0x2102.

It was 0x2101, now changed to 0x2102. The switch is booting now, I'll tell you the result in a minute. What is the config reg 0x2101 used for ?

Re: C4506 doesn't boot the correct IOS from flash

0x2101 would cause the switch to use boot image as system image (IOS).

You may want to download a free Config Register utility for understanding. Here's a link where you can get this utility.

Re: C4506 doesn't boot the correct IOS from flash

It booted the first one in bootflash because your config reg. was 0x2101. If you had deleted the old image it would have booted the new image even at 0x2101 .
