Hi all,

i'm in a situation where i have one cat4506 switch with just one 1400W power supply and i must change this 1400W power supply by two 1000W power supply without turn the switch off.

Can i have power supply redundancy on the cat 4506 chassi with one 1400W and one 1000W power supply?

it is possible?

Rafael,

It is recommended you use same wattage to achive redundancy. You can either schedule maintance power down the switch and properly install both 1000W supplies or install one that is the same as the 1400W AC without the need of powering down the box.

when you install the 1000W in combination with 1400W it will show status err-disable for the 1000W power supply one so you may end up with no power at all when you pool the 1400W power supply out.

see Power Management for the Catalyst 4500 Series Switches section .
