One of our customers wants to move the internal flash cards of their SUP720 (IOS v12.2(33)SRA1)into slot0 for easy access to the flash cards in case of upgrades and changes.
Can the switch boot from slot0 without internal flash installed? what happens in case of crash? will the dump be written to Slot0 flash? Any other loss of functionality?

Hi
Yes, it is possible.
By default, the router first tries to boot from the first image in the onboard system Flash, if available, and then it tries the PCMCIA Flash cards.
The user may also specify which images or locations to attempt booting from and the order using the boot system command in configuration mode:
IOS(config)# boot system slot0
Here's a great PDF that has some very
good suggestions (and configs) regarding this isssue starting on page 14.
