Cannot telnet to Cisco Router

I am unable to telnet to a remote cisco router 1700, when I connect and directly telnet to it using the ethernet cable, it works fine. I can telnet as far as the switch that connects the router. checked the transport input all, login, and all vty lines has been configured with the same password. Thanks for your help

Re: Cannot telnet to Cisco Router

Bahlezi,

ACL issue maybe? If you can telnet to the directly connected switch, try telneting to the 1700 from that switch.

Re: Cannot telnet to Cisco Router

I have checked and there are no ACLs on the the router...I noticed that there's a default route pointing to another router, could it be that it's not finding its route back to me?

Re: Cannot telnet to Cisco Router

Yes - check all your IP subnet routing, and all layer 3 devices are aware of all IP subnets and all gateway addresses.

Default gateway?

Re: Cannot telnet to Cisco Router

ensure all ip routing is correct from and to all IP subnets in use.
