Cat3560 PoE - best practice question

What is the general best practice if my connected device don't required PoE.....should I disable inline power on the switch? or leave it to "auto"? There maybe future deployment of VoIP. Should I enable inline power at that time?

Unless you're concerned about oversubscribing the power capabilities of the switch auto should be sufficient.

That having been said, in my mind if you're not using a feature you should probably shut it off lest it randomly create a problem later on.

Its better to disable inline power when the port does not require POE capability

I disable inline power because I've had hp printer cards cause alot of squawking in my syslog.

but then again, I disable everything, including unused ports and run port security(really drives 'em crazy that they actually have to tell me when they are adding new devices.... like linksys's switches on someone's desktop :) .)
