Cat5 - 100MB or 1000MB?

My Cisco Press CCNA Intro book says that Cat5 supports 1000MB.

I took the ICND Module 1 CCNA Prep Center sample exam and when I answered that Cat5 supported 1000MB I got the question wrong.

So when I take the test for real I want to get this right. Will it be 100MB or 1000MB?

I've been getting conflicting answers from several sources.

Pulled this off of wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category_5_cable

Hi,

CAT 5 cable supports 10/100Mbps Ethernet, i.e, Ethernet and Fast Ethernet.

CAT 5e cable supports 10/100/1000Mbps, i.e, Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, and Gigabit Ethernet.

And also notice that its "Mb" and not "MB".

The Big "B" and the small "b" makes a lot of difference.

In our case "Ethernet" its "Mb".

dhananjoychowdhury, do you have a source?

Are you sure about your conclusion?

This document from ieee appears to contradict you http://ieee802.org/3/ab/public/criteria.pdf
