Catalyst 2960 - SFP issue (GLC-GE-100FX) and (GLC-FE-100FX)

Hi, I have an issue with a number of Catalyst 2960 switches (ws--c2960-8tc-l). I want to use a 100FX SFP to connect the switch to the distribution layer. However when I use a GLC-GE-100FX module it error-disables the port and states SFP unsupported. That fine the cisco documentation states this is not supported. However I have also connected a GLC-FE-100FX and this work fine. Is this a supported configuration? The FE SFP is for 100mb port and the 2960 SFP port in Gigabit. I have 40+ of these little switches and I want to use on 100Mb uplinks. Please advise on the supportability of this configuration.

Cheers,

Gary.

It is working as expected . The 2960 8 port switches "do not" support Gig ethernet fiber. This is only for the 8 port models , all of the larger 2960 models should support it . Apparently the sfp only supports FE fiber.

A blurb from a supporting doc.

*Note: GLC-T and GLC-GE-100FX are not supported on the Cisco Catalyst 2960-8TC-S, 2960-8TC-L and 2960G-8TC-L switches. For 100BASE-FX connectivity, use the GLC-FE-100FX instead for the compact switches.
