Catalyst 4006 clear config /all

I have just bought 4 Cisco Catalyst 4006 switches and i have been trying to configure them. It was passworded so i tryed to reset the config to take the passwords off. I tryed using documentation reguarding password reset but the confreg command didnt work so i used the "clear config /all" command and reset the config now i am stuck at the "rommon #>" command prompt and dont know where to go from here seems like the only commands it allows me to set is "set interface" "set boot" and "set ip" i was wondering if i just cleared off the CATOS or somthing. I appreciate any help on this, as i dont know where to go from this rommon #> command line.

Thanks for your time,

Lance DeWitt.

Hi Lance,

in this link you can find how to recover. Nothing terrible has happened !!!! By the way i would not keep CATOS on my machines in 2012 unless very particular reasons

Take Care

Alessio

PS: i believe anyway your should type reset and enter

Re: Catalyst 4006 clear config /all

Ah this is the site that helped me reset the config, i do not see anything pretaining to how to recover.

I am stuck at

rommon 1>

whenever i reset the switch. It wont let me do much i can only configure(using set) the "interface", "boot", and "ip".

How do i get Cisco IOS on my switches? or get further than "rommon 1>" command line

Edit: At the end of this documentation it has the recovering link. Reading now. Thanks.

PS: what is wrong with CATOS? Why is Cisco ISO better? Just wondering because i am new to this and donot know the difference.

Well my problem is the last switch(only thing different about it is that 3 of the switches have 2 power supplys; and this one has 3 power supplys--which shouldnt affect this) when it does its post it starts checking the moduals:

Notices how it only goes through the first modual then skips right to "Exiting Off-line Diagnostics" and doesnt check moduals 2-6. I was wondering if anyone had a reason why this is doing so or maybe its because moduals 2-6 are fried?

Any input is welcome!!

Catalyst 4006 clear config /all

Well i think it might be the configuration in the "Supervisor II Engine" Because i swapped out one of the moduals to test to see if the switch boards(moduals) were bad but it still didnt test the modual i knew worked. So then i replaced the Supervisor and it checked all the moduals just fine.

Re: Catalyst 4006 clear config /all

Make sure you have at least 2 power supplies plugged in when booting these switches.  These are all catos and not IOS so all config commands will be done using "set" commands .    To have the switches boot automatically you need to set a boot statement.  Check to see what version you have in bootflash,  "dir bootflash: .  Then add the command  "set boot system flash bootflash: .  This will then automatically boot the box from power on .

New Member

Catalyst 4006 clear config /all

I think it could be the configuration because i tryed an extra Supervisor II Engine and its not POST'ing through moduals 2-6. Yet the 3 in the other switches will POST all of the moduals 1-6

Purple

Catalyst 4006 clear config /all

Nothing in the config that would stop the modules from booting.  If you only plug in a single power supply to try and boot them it might not power up all six modules.  Takes 2 power supplies to run them with the 3rd supply is a backup if one fails which they will eventually , wasn't  one of cisco more reliable power supplies. Can't tell you how many we have gone thru.  You will have to get any spare parts off market as these switches are EOL. We still have about 60 of these in our network .

New Member

Catalyst 4006 clear config /all

It seems that all the moduals boot, havnt plugged anything in yet to test it but the status lights on all of them go from solid orange(redish) to blinking orange to solid green. but it only does a checksum of the Supervisor II Engine then skips right to the end without going through all of the switchboard ports.
