Catalyst 6509 strange syslog message, Please help !!

Hi,

My Catalyst 6509 have strange syslog message this morning. Please advise me it was power supply failed or just power input change only.

Also what is the syslog message %ICC-SP-4-COMM? Please help me to identify this problem.

Hi,

As per the rror log message check out the below explanation which can help you out

Recommended Action: For more efficient load sharing, use power supplies with
the same output rating.

%C6KPWR-4-PSINPUTDROP (x5): Power supply [dec] input has dropped

Explanation: The power supply in the specified slot has detected a drop in its
input supply. The power  capacity for the power supply has been adjusted accordingly.

Recommended Action: Enter the show power command to see the current power status.
Otherwise, no  action is required.

%C6KPWR-4-PSINPUTDROP (x0): Power supply [dec] input has dropped

Explanation: This message indicates that the power supply in the specified slot
has detected a drop in its input supply. The power capacity for the power  supply
has been adjusted accordingly.

Recommended Action: Enter the show power command to see the current  power status.
Otherwise, no action is required.

%ICC-4-COMM (x1): Communication failure occurred while [chars]

Explanation: A communication failure has occurred between the specified card
and another card in  the system.

Recommended Action: Copy the error message exactly as it appears on the console
or in the system  log. Issue the show tech-support command to gather data that
might help identify the nature of the  error. If you cannot determine the nature
of the error from the error message text or from the show  tech-support command
output, contact your Cisco technical support representative and provide the  representative
with the gathered information.

%C6KPWR-4-PSFAIL (x2): Power supply [dec] output failed

Explanation: This message indicates that the indicated power supply failed. [dec]
is the power supply 1 or 2.

Recommended Action: Replace the power supply.

%C6KPWR-4-PSREDUNDANTONESUPPLY (x2): In power redundancy mode, system is operating
on one power supply

Explanation: This message indicates that when in power redundancy mode, the system
operates on one power supply only.

Recommended Action: No action is required.

%C6KPWR-4-PSOK (x2): Power supply [dec] turned on

Explanation: This message indicates that the indicated power supply is turned
on. [dec] is the power supply 1 or 2.

Recommended Action: No action is required.

Thanks for your help. I really need someone help to investigate and mention me which compoment failed ( power supply, chassis, power input ... )? And why the syslog message %%ICC-4-COMM occured??

Hi,

Genarally these message explain there is a communication failure has occurred between the specified card and another card in  the system.

Recommended Action: Copy the error message exactly as it appears on the console or in the system  log. Issue the show tech-support command to gather data that might help identify the nature of the  error.
