Change VTP mode from Client to Server in a production VTP Domain

Dear all,

we have a production VTP Domain with some switches acting as VTP Client and 1 as a VTP Server. now the master is dead, and we would like to change the mode of one of the remaining switches from VTP Client to VTP Master. IMHO this change should not have any impact on the current configuration of the switches (and on the VLAN database), but we would like to have your opinion about this.

Any help/feedback will be greatly appreciated

thank you

That should be fine.  The real difference between a VTP server vs. VTP client, the former allows (manual) VLAN configuration changes and the latter doesn't.

After having checked that all the clients were using the same configuration version, we decided to change the mode of one of the switches from client to master, and this change did not have any impact, as expected.
