Change VTP Server to Transparent or Client

I have a workgroup switch that is no longer in use. I have my core 6500 already set to my root bridge. The 3524 isn not root. Can I change his VTP status to client or transparent without causing a spanning tree issue or causing my VLANS to reconverge?

Re: Change VTP Server to Transparent or Client

Hi,

I would say that before changing the VTP status on the 3524 just to be on the safe side make sure that the VTP clients are consulting the 6500 as the VTP server (since they are both with the same revision number).

If all switches are talking to the 6500 for VTP, then you can change the 3524 with no problem.

Federico.

Re: Change VTP Server to Transparent or Client

Yes, changing this device to 'client' should be no problem.
