Changing native VLAN

Good afternoon,

I have two Catalyst 6506 switches running IOS version 12.2(18)SXF6 and have a trunk link between the two. One side is set to switchport and the other is a layer 3 interface with subinterfaces. I need to change the native vlan on the switchport side and need to know if I need to make any configuration changes on the layer 3 interface side? Also if and when I do change the native vlan on the switchport side will there be any major interruption of service to the trunk?

Re: Changing native VLAN

To change the native vlan on the trunkport do the following:

conf t

interface gig x/y

switchport trunk native vlan X <- native vlan number

There will not be a major disruption of the service as such, you will get some error messages for " Native vlan mismatch " on the trunk ports untill both the sides are configured for the same vlan.

HTH,
