Cisco 1751 PPPoE

systems

Level 1

Hi Guys.

I hope I’m in the right place, if not please point me to the correct forum section for the questions below.

We have a Cisco 1750, and we like to test this router for a product called VPN lite.

http://www.telkom.co.za/products_services/vpnlite/index.html

This product calls for a 2 x PPPoE connection over ADSL.

1 connection to your ISP

1 connection to the VPN cloud.

Currently i do not have an ADSL WIC installed as we would just like to test getting the PPPoE configured, is it required?

I'm new to Cisco products, so please bare with me here.

Router 10.12.0.4 255.255.255.0

I can connect to the router via telnet and hyper terminal.

At the moment I’m following http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk175/tk15/technologies_configuration_example09186a008071a729.shtml

And I’m here.

Router#configure terminal
Router(config)#vpdn enable
Router(config)#no vpdn logging
Router(config)#vpdn-group pppoe
Router(config-vpdn)#request-dialin
Router(config-vpdn-req-in)#protocol pppoe
Router(config-vpdn-req-in)#end

When I enter vpdn enable, i get the following error.

Invalid input detected at... and it points to the word vpdn.

What am I doing wrong?

Am I even following the correct "how to"

I think your IOS version does not support VPDN.

I have checked for the minimum IOS version to support VPDN and ADSL and it the IP PLUS/ADSL feature set, from which you may try:

c1700-sy7-mz.12.3-26

c1700-sy7-mz.12.2-8.TPC10c

c1700-sy7-mz.12.2-4.T

I think, by the naming convetion of your IOS, that you have only IP feature set.

Can you try to upgrade?

Please tell me if this works out for you!

Thanks Calin.

That explains alot.

I see that in order to download a new IOS i have to get a support contract?

Thats strange? I don't understand why we need to pay in order to get an updated version, unlike other router firmware is free.

Or am i missing something?
