Hello friends I am trying to configure a router through PuTTy and when i started configuring my cisco 3750 I got all the way up tp generate certificate rsa then I had to log back in through PuTTY it had asked for user name and password I remember giving it a user name but it didn't prompt me to make a password. Is there a password that was created when I generated certificate rsa or is there a password that was generated some other way. if someone can help me I would appreciate it. Thank you Pete

Peter,

The username and password is one of the accounts that you created with "username secret ". Once you ssh into the box, you'll be prompted for this username and password. Since you're not passing a privilege level with the username, you'll need to have an enable password configured on the switch as well. Generating keys does not generate a password for you to use.

Please post the results from:

"sh run | i username"

"show run | b line vty"

John

Can you tell me what the commands are to see the user name and password for this step?

Hi,

sh run | i user    will show you the username and encrypted password

sh run | i enable   will show you the encrypted enable password

Regards

Alain
