Cisco 3945 ISR /3750 switch ping sub-interface

enjoimark
Level 1
Level 1

I have been replicating the configuration from our old router (2621), to a 3945 ISR. One thing that I can't quite understand is the sub-interface.

My main network (Network 1) is 172.16.100.0 255.255.255.0

gi 0/0 is 172.16.100.1 255.255.255.0

gi0/1 has no ip

There is only one subinterface (gi0/1.3)

description ---------------------------------> Network 2
encapsulation dot1Q 3
ip address 10.1.86.14 255.255.255.0

On the switch (which is basically a 3750) the port that is connected is trunked

interface FastEthernet0/3
description to 3945 router gi0/1
switchport mode trunk
spanning-tree portfast (I realize this doesn't do anything on trunked ports)

The problem is, I can't ping 10.1.86.14 from any PC connected. The PC's that are connected to the switch have an IP of 172.16.100.xxx and a gateway of 172.16.100.1

I can't even ping 10.1.86.14 from the switch's cmd line. I can ping 172.16.100.1 from it.

This all works on the old router (2621) and switch (2950), and the config is identical.

The 10.1.86.14 sub-interface is connected to a different company's router, and that router has IP routes in it that allow us in to their network, but only from this 10.1.86.14 address. All of my machines have to talk to this sub-interface in order to reach the other company's network.

Any insight to this?

I ran the following commands on the router and switch, here is the output:

On the Router:

hpra-3945#sh ip int br
