Cisco 4506 with Series Supervisor Engine II-Plus-10GE

Hi,

My client needs  2 X 10Gb connections and is considering to replace existing WS-X4013+ (SUP II+) with a new Supervisor Engine II-Plus-10GE

But according to datasheets the 4506 chassis has a limit of 6Gbps per slot. see link below

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps4324/prod_models_comparison.html#~chassis

so my question is - that although the Supervisor Engine II-Plus-10GE is supported on the 4506 chassis, wouldn't it be limited to only 6Gbps ?

unless a 4506-E chassis is used (24Gbps per slot)

Thanks,

Marvin

Hello Marvin,

your understanding is correct. We are exacty in that situation in some older campuses and server farms.

Also even if you have a C4506-E chassis until you don't use linecards of type "E" the limit of 6 Gbps is still there.

see

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/modules/ps2710/ps5494/product_data_sheet0900aecd802109ea_ps4324_Products_Data_Sheet.html

That is you can build a system good to be used at access layer in a campus but too limited in a modern server farms.

Hope to help

Giuseppe
