Cisco 4507R+E with WS-X45-SUP7-E in SSO

Hi,

We have a Cisco 4507R+E switch with dual Supervisor engines WS-X45-SUP7-E configured in SSO.

I have added total 8 SFP SFP-10GBase-SR installed, and 4 of them (Group 2) they stayed with inactive status.

Limitation and Restriction on Supervisor Engine 7-E and Supervisor Engine 7L-E Please note the following:

• When you use WS-X45-SUP-7-E in RPR or SSO mode, only the first two uplinks on each supervisor engine are available. The second two uplinks are unavailable.

Currently, we have two uplinks from each Sup terminated on two switches, as dual uplinks on each 3560 IDF switch. So we have utilized all the uplinks from Group 1.

Now, we have a new switch which needs to be connected to the Core 4500 and we don't have any active ports left on the Supervisor.

So, we are planning to break the SSO/redundancy between the Supervisors. What is the process that needs to follow?

We know that it's not recommended to break redundancy/SSO between Sup just to have additional uplinks. But it will be a temporary fix, til the time we get new linecard with 10Gig ports.

Is there a way to activate all ports on the Sup7-E, by having two redundant Supervisors in the same chassis?

Hi,

I have never done this before, but I think if you break the SSO redundancy, you will not be able to use any of the second sup. What you maybe able to do is to keep the Sup in SSO (the way they are now) and connect only one link from the sup to the existing 3560s, so you have an extra link for the new switch.  Once you get the new blade, then use 2 links per switch.

Hi,

There is not way to make it work like this. If you have 2 supervisors installed, one of them will be redundant and in redundant supervisor mode,WS-X45-SUP-7L-E support 1+1 (in 10-Gigabit mode) and 2+2 (in 1-Gigabit mode) only.
