dear all , good day to you .

please i have a problem in my cisco core switch 6509

(( I have two core switches 6509 connected to each other – redundancy – stp ) , and now I am working only using core switch no. 1 .

the problem history :

- the switch not responding and all the indicators , RED .

- I WENT TO THE CONSOLE , AND I MADE @ RESET , FROM THE BUTTON IN THE FRONT OF THE SWITCH ''

AND THE SWITCH WENT TO ROMMON MODE

here , i did not know what to do '' the first time i had ever seen that rommon .

so , i did the following after searching on the internet to solve the problem

after that , I desired to TEST the core 2 by switching off the core switch no. one , BUT ,I notice that the core2 made RELOAD immediately , and takes some minutes to return back , BUT , the network still not working when core 2 working a lone .

I checked the booting of core2 by issuing :

Standby is not present.

After that , I turned ON core switch no . 1 , NOW BOTH CORE 1 AND CORE 2 ARE ON , AND I NOTICE THAT THE WHOLE NETWORK IS DOWN AND NOT WORKING .

WHEN I TURED OFF THE CORE SWITCH NO 2 , THE SYSTEM GOES UP AND WORK ( ONLY WHEN CORE 1 WORK A LONE , NOT LIKE OLD TIMES I WAS WORKING ON BOTH ))

I ISSUED THE FOLLOWING ON CORE 1

thanks for your replay , and please note :

- the bad switch is CORE2 .

- i do not have any CF ( CAN I BUY IT ? HOW MUCH DOES IT COST ? AND WHAT TYPE I NEED TO BUY ?)

- no i do not want to use the old IOS ver , but how can i get a newer one ? ( i do not have cisco account ) .

- in case i made new IOS UPGRADE , does it effect the configuration file ?

You can buy the CF from Cisco or your local electronics/camera shop.

i mean it will be cf 2 GB for cisco 6509 ... any other info. i need to know about that please ?

in case i got the CF , i will go to

- In ROMmon, enter the command: boot disk0:s72033-ipservices_wan-vz.122-18.SXF13.bin

shall i change config reg . to go to ROMMON ?

(( i know that i am asking many questions , but i did not do any upgrading or ios troubleshooting before .

what about the IOS , where can i get it , ( i do not have cisco account ).

Night,

Like I said, NOT ALL CF are supported so you'll have to buy at least two different manufacturer and try. I don't know the cost of an original Cisco-branded one. I don't know HOW LONG it'll take for a Cisco-branded one to arrive. You may want to try e-bay.

If CORE1 is the good supervisor then this is the command you want to use.
