Okay, we just received our new 6548-tx module 10/100/1000. Have a few install questions. I have looked for info on this site and have had a hard time finding anything.
Here is our current setup
1 2 WS-X6K-SUP1A-2GE SAD05080TV3 Hw : 7.0
Fw : 5.3(1)
Fw1: 5.4(2)
Sw : 6.3(3a)
Sw1: 6.3(3a)
WS-F6K-PFC SAD050315SH Hw : 1.1
1 - Do i need to power down the 6509 to install ?
2 - We currently do not have a SFM, I assume this just means I wont be able to leverage the higher backplane bandwidth correct ?
3 - Will my current CatOS support this module.
4 - Is there any special config required to enable the module once installed ?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Dave

The answer is no you don't have to power down to install , that being said your version of code is "not" new enough to support it so it is upgrade time , below is posted what you , one is the minimum level , the other is the recomended level to suppor the card . Also seeing that you have a old sup1a you need to check how much dram you have , some older ones came with 64 meg of dram and you cannot go above like 7.5.1 for code which would not be new enough to support the card , if it has 128 meg you are fine .
WS-X6548-GE-TX
WS-X6548V-GE-TX
48-port 10/100/1000BASE-TX switching module, fabric-enabled (WS-X6548V-GE-TX provides inline power to IP telephones using the voice daughter card WS-F6K-GE48-AF or WS-F6K-VPWR-GE)
QoS port architecture (Rx/Tx): 1q2t/1p2q2t
7.6(1)
7.6(9)
WS-X6548-GE-45AF
48-port 10/100/1000BASE-TX switching module, fabric-enabled, provides inline power to IP telephones using the voice daughter card WS-F6K-GE48-AF
QoS port architecture (Rx/Tx): 1q2t/1p2q2t
8.2(1)
8.3(3)

Hey Glenn, I checked the DRAM and unfort its 64 meg.
1 - Can I upgrade the memory ?
2 - Is it better to make the case for upgrading Sup1A's ??
Thanks

Hi Dave,
Here are my answers to your question:
1. No, you do not need to power down your 6509. Mods are hot-swappable
2. Correct. If you don't have the SFM, it just won't take advantage of the backplace BW
3. There shouldn't be an issue with the CatOS that you are running. If you do step one, afterwards if your 6509 sees the new mod, then it's good to go.
4. No special config needed to enable the mod. The chassis will see it. After installing the mod, do a show logging buffer. Just to make sure the new mod passes it's test
Hope that helps

He is saying it is a 10/100/1000 card , if so then his code is not high enough to support the card . If its a older 10/100 6548 card then it is high enough .

Thats correct, the card is the 10/100/1000 version. Thanks for the replies. I will be looking into upgrading to the correct version b4 I install the module..
Thanks again.
