7741440 bytes total (3161600 bytes free)

The total memory in use plus the free memory equals 6262651 Bytes and not 7741440 bytes as indicated in the output.

What has happended to the other 1478789

bytes and can I release it ?

Re: Cisco Catalyst 2950 Flash Memory

Issue resolved

Turns out that the HTML is a directory and cd to it and found a load of files in this directory which accounted for a large proportion of the missing flash.

The HTML directory files are used to support the Cluster Management Suite. So if no access is required from a Web Browser but just CLI is used then these files can be removed to free up Flash.

The HTML files are factory installed, but are also installed if the switch is upgraded using a .TAR file which extract the .BIN file and a load more files into the HTML directory. Alternatively if no CMS is required then you can just download a .BIN file to upgrade a switch.
