Cisco Catalyst 2960 series

jamessmart747

Level 1

Hi, I noticed that the 2960 offers a basic level of Layer 3 support and I was wondering if it would do what we need.

Bascially 50 VLANS isolated from one another, then using the L3 switch with one static route to forward external traffic to the router destined for the internet (default route)

So how many SVI'S does it support (id need 60 top end)

How many  DHCP pools will it take (again 50 - 60)

I appreciate any help on this matter as unfortunatley the spec PDF's dont detail this information.

Thanks

Hi ,

2960 does not suport ip routing. Routing is not supported under the lanlite IOS and for IOSes under 12.2(55).

With the lanbase, you can use up to 255 SVI.

number of unicast mac addresses:                  4K
number of IPv4 IGMP groups + multicast routes:    0.25K
number of IPv4 unicast routes:                    4.25K
  number of directly-connected IPv4 hosts:          4K
number of indirect IPv4 routes:                   0.25K
number of IPv4 policy based routing aces:         0
number of IPv4/MAC qos aces:                      0.125k
number of IPv4/MAC security aces:                 0.375k

Thanks Dan thats really helpful. Do you know what the limitation is for ther ammount of DHCP pools? I didnt think to actually look at the notes for the IOS rather than the hardware, I will see what I can dig up

I do not think that there is any actual dhcp pool limitation , the only limitation will be the memory of the equipment

If your question is answerd, please set the thread as answerd.

Dan

Thanks, do you think 50 would cause an issue with memory?
