Cisco GLC-10G-T SFP+ transceiver module for SFP+ to RJ45 connectivity

Hi All,

I have a Cisco SG550X which needs to be connected to a DELL server. The Cisco SG550X has SFP+ (10G) ports, but the DELL server has 10G Ethernet ports. Could Cisco GLC-10G-T SFP+ transceiver module be used to connect the switch and the DELL server. Is this module supported on the Cisco SG550X switch or should any media converters used for this purpose?

Regards,

Nithin.

Hi,

To my knowledge all SG550X models feature also two 10GbE Combo uplink ports, so perhaps you may consider to use this 10GBASE-T copper port for direct connection to DELL server.

Best regards,

Antonin

Here is the data sheet for the SG550X series. You can find the information in the "ports" chart.

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/550x-series-stackable-managed-switches/datasheet-c78-735874.html

It seems like the SFP compatibility depends on the exact model of the switch but most of them support SFP+ modules which would include the GLC-10G-T SFP+

To my understand, that module (GLC-10G-T) doesn't exist.

In this link: https://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/csbms/550xg/quick_start/guide/en-US/550XG-QSG-en-US.pdf

you will see all compatible modules.

yes never seen 10gb GLC-T but there is this for 10gb you need cat6a or 7 though copper but SMB do not have any support for them yet
10GBASE-T X2 transceiver module for CAT6A/CAT7 cable, copper, RJ-45

Some of my colleagues tried to use those 'compatibles' GLC-10G-T modules which there is in the market... bad results...

Hello,

According to 10G SFP+ cables datasheet, there is no SFP-2-Copper module so you can use simple Ethernet copper cable to connect switch with your server:

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/interfaces-modules/transceiver-modules/data_sheet_c78-455693.html

So, from Cisco point of view if you try to use any "compatible" modules there is no guarantee that switch will recognize it. So in your case cheapest option will be to buy 10 Gbps server NIC with SFP ports and use Twinax Cisco Copper 10 Gbps cable to interconnect your switch with your server.
