Cisco Home network advice

Hey guys,

I know this is probably in the top 5 of "frequently asked questions" but I'm having trouble getting some decent advice on the net, so I thought I'd try this forum 8-)

I'm currently studying for my CCNA, and also looking for a home network upgrade, so I thought about grabbing some Cisco gear from eBay to play around with.

Currently I have my eye on an auction that includes a Cisco 2611 with 2x WIC 1B S/T cards installed, Cisco Catalyst WS-C2924-XL and a Cisco Catalyst WS-C2924C-XL. If I can grab these for under $150-200 (AU, which is like $80-130 US?), would it be worth it?

Will it also be scalable enough to use to study for the CCNP? And will it give me decent home performance plus protection. (VPN ?)

Sorry for the bombardment, and thanks in advance.

Re: Cisco Home network advice

Don't bother with the 2611 series if you want to use it for anything other than a learning experience (2611 have only 10mbit ethernet)

Most 2611's don't have enough ram or flash to support a IOS with VPN support.

Also AUD is trading at about US0.94 :P

Ok fair enough. What about the 2621 router? Will 2950 switches do for studying the CCNP exam also?
