Hi all

with Cisco nexus switches, is it possible to run Fibre channel and ethernet along the same fibre?

Yes.

It's called Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE).

Some 5500 will support FCoE only or FCoE and FC.

Hi Carl

To add to leolaohoo comment - for FC support you need devices marked UP in the partnumber.

UP - unified port which can support either etherntt or FC depending from the config.

If you are using the 5548UP (UP stands for Universal Port) then you can send FCoE, FC, Ethernet down a single pipe.

Take note that my response is regarding the Nexus 5K.  I haven't responded with the different line cards of the 7K that will support FC, FCoE, Ethernet.

I also have NOT mentioned about the up-and-coming Nexus 6K.
