Hi Guys,

I have replaced the additional 128MB DIMM in the DIMM connector with another 256MB DIMM but the same error appears.

From online Cisco documentation I understood that Cisco 1801 have 128 MB of DDR SDRAM installed on the system board. I have opened the cover, found the internal DRAM on the back of the mainboard, wipe inside with a clean cloth but still no change

So, my question is.. what are my options? Can I somehow bypass this onboard memory and run through the 256MB installed on the DIMM connector? Or do I have to replace the mainboard?

Hi,

I don't think you can bypass the on board memory.  Also, it maybe cost too much to replace the motherboard.  The best option maybe to just buy a new one.

Two of our three devices have failed with the same error, so I assume there was a problem with this device.

The two that have failed were bought at different times and are different ages.

Not overly impressed.

Edit:

So there is a Cisco documented issue with degrading RAM chips.  I guess this makes it pointless replacing the dead 1801's with replacements!

Does this mean I have to purchase new maintenance contracts to have the faulty manufacturing issue addressed, or is this covered by a 'recall' policy of any sort?

were you using UPS between router and power supply?

What an odd question.  Both were on UPS's, but I'm not sure what the relevance of that might be.
