boot: cannot open "flash0:"

Your CF is either corrupt or not there.

CF is there in router, but i think it is empty.

Now can you guide me how to put IOS in Flash.

Specify all the methods .....

Hi Wajid,

Leo is right, the "boot: cannot open "flash0:"" indicates the issue with CF. If it is installed, then CF is damaged or CF slot on the router is faulty. This have nothing to do with image, as system cannot even open a file system. Lack of image would be reported with corresponding message.

I recommend to

1. reseat CF.

2. test with another CF or test this CF in another router.

3. replace either CF or router depending on step 2 results.

Kind Regards,
Ivan Shirshin

I know what's going on.

Your CF is, probably, not supported and/or NOT FORMATTED correctly.

guys i thing i forgot to tell you that,my flash is empty.this can be the reason for router going into rommon mode...?

my flash is empty.this can be the reason for router going into rommon mode...?

Yes.  That's what I said in my first post.

my doubt is clear.....

Now the flash is blank, what thing i have to upload in flash rather then IOS to start the router.help me for this as i am doing firts time this.

Where exactly is the CF? Is it in slot1:?

Sent from Cisco Technical Support Nintendo App

It is in slot0

Now the flash is blank

Ok, you are NOT making any sense.

First, you are saying that flash is blank or empty.

It is in slot0

Next, you are saying it's in Slot0:.

It is in router slot 0.i inserted in slot 1 and try to start the router but the same error come.

And then you say it's in Slot1:

Make up your mind:  WHERE DO YOU WANT YOUR CF TO GO?

If you're CF is corrupt or bad, get a new one.

I just had a 1921 router bricked by a power failure and I know this ticket is from years ago - but at this point the only recovery its a tftpdnld to recover the image and basically start from scratch - all files on the CF will be wiped though.
