There is no way to predict hardware failure. The best you can do is to use a good tool like the Orion program and or ciscoworks if you have the money . Make sure you have applicable snmp traps turned on for the hardware and get things like power supplies fixed as they break. Things like a supervisor cards don't break that often . The highest failure items seems to be power supplies particularly on the 4500 series for some reason.
