config files in routers and switches

Hi all

when cisco ios boots and loads the config files, does they system always have to refer to them as running config and startup config?

ie if I do a copy tftp run, then copy a file called carl.cfg to running config, will the config file ways be called config.cfg?

cheers

Re: config files in routers and switches

Hello.

Taking into account that certain file altering functions such as rename are not permitted execution under certain filesystems (such as system:/), i think the answer to your first question is yes, you cannot modify the name running-config and startup-config. This pretty much answers No2 too.

Hope this help.
