Hi,

I have some confusions with respect to the 4500R and the 4500E series

a) Can we put a Sup6E on the 4500R?

b) There is model "4505R-E". Is this "R-E" a new series like "R" and "E"?

c) Can i put a E series line card on a 4500R?

Thnaks in advance.

The 4500Rs have slots for redundant supervisors.

The 4500Es have 6Gpbs & 24Gpbs line card slot speeds.

The 4500R-Es have redundant supervisor slots and 6Gbps & 24Gbps line card speeds.

Standard 4500 (non R, E or RE) have 6Gbps line card speed and single supervisor support.

Please see the following link for 4500 model/capability comparisons:

a) Yes you can. The sup6 is compatible with both the new E chassis and the previous non-E chassis.

b) Can't find a link to that. Could you post link as i haven't come across a 4505 before.

c) No you can't. From the 4500 Q&A

Q. Are the E-Series line cards supported in non-E-Series chassis?

A. No. The classic Cisco Catalyst 4000 and 4500 chassis maximum per slot capacity is 6 gigabits per slot.
