Hi all,

I have a problem with a connection to the server, under normal conditions ping from the PC monitor to the server normally. but sometimes there is a failure that resulted in the PC unable to connect to the server.

If I do change the IP address on the PC monitor, Ping goes back to normal or I do service network restart on the server problem is gone. please help me, im stuck at this moment

but sometimes there is a failure that resulted in the PC unable to connect to the server.

Can you provide more details in terms of what the failure actually is ?

In addition, are the switches (sw3/sw4) L3 switches ie. what device is the 192.168.10.254 configured on ?

Jon

Hi Jon

Initially the pc monitor can ping the server, and vice versa. in some time these devices can not be connected.

sw3 & sw4 is L2 switches, 192.168.10.254 is FW ASA as a Gateway.

thx for your response

Hello,

Expecting that all of the devices have the right subnet-mask then traffic should not reach the Firewall. Traffic should stay on the L2 domain.

That being said:

  1. Do the PC and Server have the IP address configured statically or is via DHCP?

Next time the issue happens Check

  • Try to ping the Firewall from the PC and Server
  • Check the ARP table of the PC/Server
  • Interface status of the switches

sh interfaces fastEthernet x/x switchport

  • Any Err-disabled problem

sh interfaces fastEthernet x/x status err-disabled

  • The MAC address table of the switches

show mac address-table interface fastEthernet x/x (Make sure you see the MAC address of the PC/Server on the right ports)

Hope this helps,

Hi jcarvaja

ip address configured static

- PC & server able to ping the Firewall

- no problem with the mac address, errdisable, arp table
I assume the problem is on the server, but I am not so sure how to explain this problem
