I want to design a network as shown in the attached network.

I am planning to run L3 between the core switches and edge routers.

I am confused whether to run L2 or L3 between the core switches.

Can anyone guide me the configurations required for this setup

thanks in advance

You can either put it on L2 or L3.

If you put it on L3, all the Layer2 traffic like STP, VTP between the core switches will be forwraded through the access layer trunks. The advantage here for you will be that you will have 3 different Layer3 paths for forwarding your traffic between the switches and core routers. And if you are running any La3 protocol it will be able to send the traffic it across all the available paths.

If you have a layer 2 link, all the Layer2 traffic will be sent directly between the core switches and it doesnot have to go through the access layer trunks.

Thanks Amit,

what would you suggest considering there would be around 200 users on the subnet
