Hi,
we create a new data center with 2 rooms. In each room, we have 500 copper 10/100/1000 ethernet connections. (each server have 2 to 5 connections)
I plan to install 2 6509-SUP720 MSFC3 per room, 250 connetions on each 6509.
I also need fiber connection between the 4 6509.
What do you think about this architecture ?
Thanks

Looks like a good modern day enterprise standard rollout for high-availability with room for growth. Don't forget to split power to two different circuits fronted by UPS boxes in case of commercial power failure -budget/SLA dependent.

Hi,
Sounds good - the only thing I might do differently is use 6513's instead of 6509's, unless you're absolutely sure you won't need many additional ports or service modules. The incremental cost won't be that great and the extra slots may come in handy in a year or two.

What PSU's are you going to use 3kW 4kW 6kW?
Do you intend to use the Cisco ACE module?
Do you intend to use the Cisco FWSM?
Do you intend to use the Cisco IDS module?
Are you going to use Blade Centres?

Will you need to run HA protocols
like
Veritas Cluster server
Microsoft Cluster server
IBM HACMP
this may require you to use layer 2 between the 2 rooms rather thane layer 3 routing

The design is quite standard.
When connect 4 6509 together, consider the spanning tree issue (if there is) and how they connect each other, e.g. mesh ?
Require good VALN & IP address assignment for Operation & Management issue.
Check the speed/duplex in each ports and servers.
Agreed to consider to use 6513 if budget is available.
Just my 2 cents.

For spanning-tree, want to use MST

Checked MST and found it is the modified version of RSTP. It should be fine and rememebr to test all possible failures before the production. :)
