CPU high utilization_C3750 stack

my stack switch CPU utilization is show very high.can anyone guide me to solve the same.

Below is the interface detail.

CPU high utilization_C3750 stack

Wajid,

As a workaround and to reduce the CPU consumption of this process, go ahead and shut down all unused interfaces, and it might bring down the CPU consumed due to HULC LED little bit.

The High CPU consumption because of HULC LED process won't imact your network at all.

CPU high utilization_C3750 stack

Hi Wajid,

Based on your input i could see that there is Hulc LED Process process which is utilizing more CPU than the other.

The below Bug matching this behavior presently,

  • CSCsi78581 - Hulc LED Process uses 10-15% CPU on Catalyst 3750/3560
  • This issue has been observed in 3560X/3750X with PoE, running 12.2(53)SE1 release
  • This is normal behavior. One can expect that the overall CPU utilization will be between 25 – 35%.
  • Plugging PoE devices into all ports on a 3750-X switch will cause the CPU utilization to increase however it will remain in the normal 25 – 35% range.
  • This doesnt cause any impact

If you see any issue still, please capture the below commands and share for the further analysis,

#show processes cpu history

#show platform port-asic stats drop

#show controllers cpu-interfaces

#show log

#show version

CPU high utilization_C3750 stack

Dear Aru,

     This is a WS-C3750X-48T, which is connected in stack, only access switches are terminated on this switch,no fiber module also we have use on core switch.

The running IOS version is

Version 12.2(55)SE5

Still the cpu utilization reach to 40% above.

What can be the possible issue.

The "Hulc LED" process does following tasks:
  • Check Link status on every port
  • If the switch supports POE, it checks to see if there is a Power Device (PD) detected
  • Check the status of the transceiver
  • Update Fan status
  • Set Main LED and ports LEDs
  • Update both Power Supplies and RPS
  • Check on system temperature status

One can expect that the overall CPU utilization will be between 25 – 35%. Please verify the below commands to verify which process is utilizing the CPU

#show processes cpu sort | ex 0.00%

#show processes cpu history

If the CPU utilization high due to Hulc LED Process, then this expected behavior and Please note that all of the packet forwarding is done in hardware and not by the CPU. So this doesnt cause any impact of any services

As a workaround and to reduce the CPU consumption of this process, go ahead and shut down all unused interfaces, and it might bring down the CPU consumed due to HULC LED little bit.

The High CPU consumption because of HULC LED process won't imact your network at all.
