Create VLAN on Cisco 2948G switch running on CAT OS

Hello Experts,

I'm trying to configure VLAN on Cisco 2948G switch running on CAT OS and getting the following error:

VTP advertisements transmitting temporarily stopped,

and will resume after the command finishes.

Cannot add/modify VLANs on a VTP server without a domain name.

I'm using this command "set vlan 2 name corporate" that I believe is correct.

Please assist.

I configured my last CatOS switch probably 10 years ago, so I don't really remember if the followind should be ok. But the message sounds like that you should configure VTP correctly:

set vtp domain YOUR-VTP-DOMAIN mode server

   or

set vtp domain YOUR-VTP-DOMAIN mode transparent

I don't want to configure VTP, just create a simple VLAN, that's it..

if you don't want VTP, then configure it just with the correct mode for that which is transparent.

that should be:

set vtp domain YOUR-VTP-DOMAIN mode transparent

I don't have any more documentation on that device/CatOS. But your error-code sounds like if it would be needed to correct your config.

CATOS commands:

Complete these steps:

1. Issue this command in order to set the domain name:

   set vtp domain name
   
   

   Note: When you configure a new switch, the VTP domain name should be configured before you create any non-default VLANs.

2. Issue this command in order to set the mode:

   set vtp mode [server | client | transparent]
   

3. Issue these commands in order to monitor the VTP operation and status:

   show vtp domain
   show vtp statistics
