dealing with switch 2900 IP addressing

the problem is that I have a switch 2900 xl seires and I can not make a telnet to it

in my network the management vlan is vlan no 6 so i had to assign ip address to the interface vlan 6 on that switch

I did that but it remained shut down despite being manually configured to be up

when I use interface vlan 1 it responded but the telnet yet didn't work

i need a suggestion

Hi,

Have you configured your VTY lines with password and login commands.

VTY LINES are needed to be configured for telnet connection

Hi Raj,

yes ofcourse i configured vty lines and set the password but the problem still exists

i think that the problem is related to the fact that i set interface vlan 1 as the management interface whereas it should be interface vlan 6 which i can not configure on that switch

Hi,

You must be connected to the switch on a port in VLAN6.

HTH,

Mohammed Mahmoud.

If you have a management vlan and also have other different vlans assigned to this switch your uplink has to be a trunk link in order to do this . Also the 2900 has to be a newer 8 meg box versus the old 4 meg 2924's which would not support trunking.
