design issue

I'm trying to set up the following solution but having trouble working it out, so hopefully someone can help

I have a DSL line wth a BT DSL router/modem- this is working fine, if i attach a pc to one of the ports it picks up an IP (192.168.1.x/24) and have an internet connection. DSL router/modem has an internal address of 192.168.1.0/24 the gateway being 192.168.1.1

I have attached a patch from this DSL router/modem to SWITCH1 port 3

port 2 of SWITCH1 is a attached to a PC

details:

IP:172.18.0.50/24

GW:172.18.0.254

port 1 of SWITCH1 is atached to F0/1 of Router1 (Trunk)

With the dunp of configs attached I can ping from the PC the 192.168.1.1 & 172.18.0.254 but cannot get a internet connection.

Just so you know I'm trying this setup because I want to eventually setup a LAN-LAN VPN tunnel from the Cisco 1700 router.

Of course you can ping from the computer to 192.168.1.1, your router is "directly" connected to both of those addresses and will know them.

But your router doesn't know about http://www.google.com, so you need to tell it how to get there.

Use the ip route command to accomplish that and set your gateway of last resort.

ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.1.1

that will tell your router to send all unknown traffic to 192.168.1.1.
