Hi,
We have several 6500 nodes with Sup7203BXL and DFC3BXL on the line cards.
Do I manually have to enable Distributed Forwardning on the linecards?
When I execute "sho mls rp" I get "ip multilayer switching is globally disabled"
Is there any rules of thumb of when to use DFC on the linecards?

I am not sure you actually need it on a 6500 box with MSFC3. It does all that stuff using CEF and does not require mls rp internally. I think it does not support external mls rp at all.

OK. I must say it's a bit confusing when you see this on a 6500:
# sho mls rp
ip multilayer switching is globally disabled
ipx multilayer switching is globally disabled
ipx mls inbound acl override is globally disabled
mls id is 0019.a9b0.a800
mls ip address 0.0.0.0
mls ip flow mask is unknown
mls ipx flow mask is unknown
number of domains configured for mls 0

Hello Jorge,
I would check using
sh mls
show cef
sh mls rp could point to an external RP that is not present, the Sup720 3BXL should have the daughter card MSFC3. You can check this with show module and go the submodules section near the end and see if there is an MSFC entry.
CEF based multilayer switching should be enabled by default.
sh mls rp was fine with flow based multilayer switching (that of SUP1)
Hope to help
Giuseppe
